a) Yes (It can also boot from USB).I took out the microSD card and restarted. Then I can no longer access the Raspberry Pi (at least via PuttY and VNCDriver).

b) Is it possible to put all necessary files on the raspberry pi itself - so it can start with SD card? Or is a Raspberry pi meant to run with a microSD as 'hard drive'.
c) If a raspberry Pi can run without microSD ... how do I get installation files on the raspberry pi 5?
b) No. The Raspberry Pi has no built in storage for the OS. You have to use the micro SD card or a USB storage device or a NVME SSD in a Pi PCIe adaptor.
c) Not possible.
