I can sympathise with the screen issues you are having. My issues started when I upgraded the media player Pi to Bullseye so I stayed with Buster which works perfectly out of the box except for my favourite streaming service. Foolishly I figured that with the advent of Wayland/Wayfire in Bookworm on a Pi 5 all would be well again. Wrong.
My TV tells the Pi that it is bigger than it actually is.The TV says that it is 3840x2160px @ 60Hz but it us actually about 60px smaller in height and and about 100 smaller in width and the max refresh rate is 50Hz.
So how to fix it ?
I tried messing around with the screen resolution to no avail. I tried messing around with the refresh rate also to no avail. In the end all I ended up doing was to addto the end of /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt and it was solved to a large degree.
The question I hear you asking is "If Buster on a Pi 4 wasn't broken then why upgrade to Bookworm on a Pi 5 ?" The answer is simple. I like to watch SBS On Demand without dropped frames, jerkiness, etc. The Pi 5 with Bookworm can do that easily.

Code:
