Manufacturers might not like that, especially profit-driven businesses, but I bet there are a lot of things they don't like doing which they are forced to do through legislation. They'll just have to suck it up as another cost of doing business. Currently it's the consumer who has to suck it up and IMO there's a more equitable balance which can be had.
1. Is there such a thing as a non-profit related business? (excluding Charities, which are a very special case, but even they like some profit)
Sure; there are businesses which are formed to provide services and don't seek revenues or monetary income beyond what's needed to keep that business and its services going, will often be funded out of the owner's own pockets.

Someone running a business from home to replace chips for nothing more than costs of parts I wouldn't call profit-driven.

By "profit-driven" I was meaning those who put profit as a primary goal or consider it amongst their higher priorities, those who focus on their growth, turnover or annual profits, their share value, maximising shareholder dividends, director and privileged staff salaries and benefits.
