you need to provide more info.
- what power supply ? (highly recommend the official)
- what PI-OS did you load?
- what else did you load? (you mentioned home assistant?)
Just FYI: updating the bootloader should result in a solid GREEN screen. (success)
then you have to re-flash the card with the PI-OS
1) the blinking red usually means power. I hope you are not using a cell charger, or anything like that. use the official supply if you can.
2) try a fresh copy of PI-OS, see if that works. (i'd load PI-OS with Desktop)
