Troubleshooting • Yet another non-boot RPi 5 - solid red light

Hello,

I recently purchased a Raspberry Pi 5 and OEM heat sink as well as a Canakit 45w power supply with switch because the only power supply I had was only rated at 3amps and had no switch (I hate having to unplug the device to power it off). Initially it booted well, and I installed the latest 64-bit Raspbian OS to a 128GB SSK 3.0 USB SSD. This combination produced incredibly fast boot times and a very responsive OS.

My intention was to use this device in conjunction with a USB Coral TPU, so I started down the path to get it working. For 2 days I worked through the installation of all the required environments and software, then last night I managed to successfully test my Coral TPU, Yay me! Sadly this afternoon, I tried to power on my Pi and all I got was a solid red light. I have tried all of the solutions listed in the STICKY: Is your Pi not booting? (The Boot Problems Sticky) yet none of them worked. :(

So, here is my list of attempts to recover the device:
- Remove all devices including monitor(s), fan, and SD card. Then attempt boot. FAILED
- Attempted to reflash the boot eeprom with both SD Card Boot and Network Boot. FAILED
- Removed the switch and power the board directly. FAILED
- Tried a different power supply (5v 3a) no peripherals. FAILED
- Tried flashing (again) with 3a power supply. FAILED
- Drop it in the freezer for about an hour to (hopefully) reset any polyfuse issues. FAILED
- Plugged it into my laptop, but it isn't recognized. FAILED
- Pressed the little power button near the SD card (many, many, many times). FAILED FAILED FAILED...

Nothing I did even made the red light flicker.

So... Do any of you have any additional tricks for successfully restoring a Raspberry Pi 5 boot problem? If not, should I assume the board is officially toast and request a replacement ?

I apologize for being yet another troublemaker, but I look forward to any assistance you can provide.
