I recently got a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB with Raspberry Pi OS (preinstalled latest version by Pi Hut. I had been using a Dell G2724D monitor, which had worked fine for a couple of weeks of occasional use. I noted that it was running at 1440P 144Hz and wanted to free up this memory bandwidth, so I changed the resolution to 60Hz. At this point the monitor went blank. I switched the HMDI port and was again on 1440P 144Hz. As a test I also changed this to 60Hz and found the monitor again went blank. Since this I can get no picture on either of 2 monitors, either with the previously working OS or with no card, or with a freshly installed card with the latest Raspberry Pi OS.
I can only get a picture in one situation. With the newly installed Raspberry Pi card (the previous one was formatted over to create this) and on one of the two HDMI ports while connected to my old 1080P telly. This shows the desktop, but in green. The other port shows blank.
It is my belief at present that changing the refresh rate causes the output of the graphics chip to self-destruct, bricking the Pi.
Can anyone suggest:
a possible fix (which I don't at present believe is possible)
the best way to report such a bug
advice on what to do if it is definitely ruined. It's less than a month old and from Pi Hut. I'm guessing there's no warrantee on these things. Do I just chuck it in the recycling?
Many thanks in advance!
