Troubleshooting • Can't install Ubuntu 24.04 on new RPi5

[This seems to be a duplicate of one (or more) similar messages. I read through them all, but did not find a solution, so I am posting to see if there is now a known answer. Sorry for duplication.]

I purchased a RPi5 kit (8GBytes) from Vilros. I used Raspberry Pi Imager (latest version) to flash the provided MicroSD card with Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS. It seemed to download the image and flash normally. (I've flashed many RPi4's successfully.)

I then booted the RPi, and got through the usual Ubuntu startup stuff (network, time zone, username and password, etc). It then displayed this message:
The installer encountered an unrecoverable error.
A desktop session will now be run so that you may
investigate the problem or try installing again.
[ OK ]
Attempting to log in failed: I used the username/password I originally entered, "ubuntu/ubuntu", etc. but no dice.

Is there a known solution to this problem? Many thanks.
