OK, well, if you decide that you're interested in pursuing using sdm, I'm happy to help. Contact me via my email (it's on the sdm github page). I can help make it pretty painless for you, unless you do too much weird stuff
Well, that depends on what is considered weird. The problem is that I may not remember all the things I did, some of which may or may not be weird. I run a Firefox browser on startup to fetch external POP3 e-mails in gmail, for example. That took a bit of figuring out.
My Samba configuration is another. There are scripts in ~/scripts and probably /root/scripts . This is all from my memory.

For now, I flashed Bookworm to a microSDXC card. The only thing I setup was VNC. I did not install any app.
I did notice that the Pi4 was running maybe a little bit too hot. It was stacked on top of two TP-Link 10 Gbe switches, TL-SX105 .Both of which previously failed under warranty, most likely due to heat. Unfortunately, there is no rackmount option for these models to space them. I use furniture pads, but they are no very tall. I did not put one at the bottom of the case of my Pi4, though.

Anyway, I moved the Pi4 a little bit farther back, on top of battery chargers which are turned off and don't generate heat. Maybe it will survive the weekend that way. Not sure if the heat is the root cause, though. Is there any software for the Pi4 that monitors the temperature and logs it ? If so, I may switch back to my Bullseye SSD and install that.
