I'm facing a similar problem with my setup. I've got my Raspberry Pi booting from a USB connection to an M.2 SSD, using the original power supply. The pi is connected the the internet via WLAN. I've checked the logs, but there's nothing helpful there.
When the Pi freezes, I can still ping it, but everything else stops working.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with the USB-to-SSD connection.
Any ideas or suggestions would be really helpful.
