Previously you wrote:
while ssh'ed into one pi I cannot ping the other pi's ip address and vice versa. I am though, able to ping everything else, the outside internet, and even my iMac.

Now you say:

My two pi 5's are connect through ethernet cable via a switch, but I am using a TP link for my switch, it's not directly connected to my router.

My iMac is connected through the wifi

I think there is something missing from you description.

How do the RPi[5] systems gain access to the internet if the switch they share is not connected to your Internet Router? And how is the Mac able to gain access to them?

How are the IP addresses for the RPi[5] systems implemented in the switched network?

(In case it is implied by your question: I do not know of any 'special case' built into an RPi[5] board that would prevent it communicating with either another RPi[5] bord or indeed any other network-equipped device.)
