Unless Imager had write support for BTRFS and/or EXT4 added. Then it could write directly to wherever needed.And you'd no longer be able to edit key config files on non Linux computers which would likely break Raspberry Pi Imager (Imager does the first boot customisation by writing a file to the FAT partition).
