Troubleshooting • Is my new RPI5 bonkers or what?

I have no idea what is going on. I have an RPI5 running pi-hole using RPI OS off an NVME SSD without issue.

I bought a 2nd RPI5 with the intention of running Emby theater OS. Only for whatever reason it refused to boot off the NVME. OK, I probably changed the boot order somehow on my first RPI5 and forgot to do it with the 2nd (although I have no memory of doing that for my first RPI5 but whatever). So I run the RPI imager on an SD card and use the tools option that allows you to updated the ROM and also change the boot order priority to NVME. Theoretically I just then need to insert the SD card to updat the ROM and change the boot order to the NVME, remove the SD card and plug the NVME in and bam! Emby OS. Nope! It still refuses to boot into the NVME and so instead dumps itself to the Arm CLI and asks for some random username and password that I have no way of knowing.

So I figure I'll just reflash the SD card with the actual RPI OS and just boot into the full desktop and update the ROM that way (which is probably what I inadvertently did at some point with my first RPI). Nope! Attempting to boot from the SD card now just dumps an infinite scroll of this "xHC-CMD err: 4 type:11 [a whole series of numbers]" error. It just spams that indefinitely.

So here I am with no way to boot into RPI OS on an SD card. No way to boot into the NVME. And some request for some rando Arm user account that nobody knows about.

Help?
