I appear to have exactly the same problem.
- Raspberry Pi 8 GB, with D0 stepping
- official active cooler
- official 27 Watts power supply
- Pineboards HatDrive! Nano NVMe hat
- Raspberry Pi SSD 512 GB
- GeekPi metal case
When the error occurs, the machine still reacts to pings (WiFi still works) and SSH sessions remain open, but it appears the NVMe drive is offline, as I cannot invoke any new commands. The activity LEDs on the NVMe-Hat are off, and the power LED on the Raspberry Pi glows red.
For now I suspect that the NVMe hat or its ribbon cable might be susceptible to interference of some sort, so I now ordered the official Rasbperry Pi NVMe hat to have something to experiment with (and have all relevant components be official).
