Seems clear now. I think the problem is missing the USB PD handshake. To override you need

usb_max_current_enable=1

in config.txt and

PSU_MAX_CURRENT=5000

in the EEPROM settings. I think that's all.

Thank you, this is what I was looking for. But you got my curiosity with the line "...Expect funny things to happen in case your PSU is able to supply 5A with this setting added!" - what kind of funny things? Are they useful funny things, or magic-smoke releasing funny things?
