That's the confusing part that's making me think it's something with the Pi. When plugged in I don't see any indications that the router sees it either. Looking at all my connected devices I can see everything that's attempted to connect or been connected by Ethernet or WiFi and select if it's allowed or disallowed. The raspberry pi 5 just doesn't show up. It didn't show up with the first one or the replaced current one I'm using.
The power supply is the I posted at the bottom with the ifconfig readout. It comes from canakit.com it's a 45w output. It's supposed to handle multiple possible amp pulls up to the 45w max.
I cannot currently check it till I get home later and try your suggestion ethtool suggestion
Two additional thoughts.
1. Not clear what the outcome was, but there is another recent thread about performance issues when using the same 3rd-party Power Supply. viewtopic.php?p=2283245&hilit=canakit#p2283249
(At 5.1 volts as negotiated by your RPi[5] you will never draw more than 25.5W, despite the claimed capability of the PSU.)
2. As a diagnostic only, because It won't assign an IP address, so won't 'work' in any meaningful sense, but what output would you get from ip link and ethtool if you plumb the utp patch cable directly between your RPi[5] and your laptop?
