Troubleshooting • Pi 4 can ONLY boot FreeBSD

To me, this is truly weird...

I wanted to run FreeBSD 14 on a Pi 4, and it all worked great. When that project was over I wrote the current Raspbian over the same SD card and booted the unit up. It hung with a flashing cursor in the top left.

Re-wrote the SD card, same result.

Got a brand new SD card and re-wrote. Same. Tried that SD card in another Pi 4. Works.

Updated the firmware, got the green screen, tried Raspbian again. cursor in top left.

Put FreeBSD back on an SD card. Guess what. it boots up just fine.

So after somewhere between 6 and 10 SD cards the problem is absolutely reproducible, this board will ONLY boot FreeBSD now, and I cannot see how that's even possible, never mind fix it. I have Pi's of every vintage around the home and office all working fine so I am pretty sure I know how to write an SD card and set up the board.

Has anyone got any suggestion what I can try next? Can I somehow get into the board with a debugger and see what's going on?

Thanks in advance.
