Instead of soldering directly to the GPIO header, I would probably use a couple of the single pin "dupont connectors". You can get the individual connectors or cut a jumper wire in half and splice onto it. E.g. these jumper wires: https://thepihut.com/products/rpi-premi ... male-100mm
