Troubleshooting • Distorted image on a display with res. 1920x1280

Hardware is PI 5 booting from an SSD card. I was using a display with the resolution 1920x1080 and all was fine.
Changed the display for a new one wich has a resolution 1920x1280. The image is appearing but like streched in the vertical dimension. No problem to use the PI, except that in video, its enoying to say the least.
I thought it would be a slight tuning like using Preferences - Screen configuration - and opening the resolution possibilties, but no luck, the list does not include 1920x1280.
I then looked into the config.txt file and again, that resolution is not standard.
I tried the group 2, mode 87 and a hdmi-cvt command like hdmi-cvt 1920 1280 60 3 0 0 but could not see any changes.
I need to confirm that the config.txt file is the one in /boot/firmware/ ?

Idealy I would like the display to keep the aspect ratio and maybe insert a small black fringe above and below the image? I played with the overscan_top and bottom but observed no changes.

The only solutions I can forecast is keeping my old display? Buying a new one with a standard(?) resolution? Both not really satisfying, the new screen is brighter and has a nice looking frame.
Thanks in advance to whoever can enlight me.
