Troubleshooting • parted not working on 6 TB USB drive

I have been experiencing the strangest thing. I purchased a Seagate 6 TB drive and connected it via USB. I have validated that it works by writing to sections of the disk all the way out to the reported last sector. However, when I try to use it either with LVM or by partitioning it with parted, it fails. When I use parted, I create a new partition table with the "mktable gpt" sub-command. That seems to work, but if I leave parted and return I get the following message.

Code:

Error: Both the primary and backup Error: Both the primary and backup GPT tables are corrupt. Try making a fresh table, and using Parted's rescue feature to recover partitions.GPT tables are corrupt.
I connected the drive to a Fedora workstation and it works flawlessly, but for some reason I cannot create partitions or use the drive.

Full details

Code:

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
