Troubleshooting • RPI login not working

Hi!

Newbie here.

I am getting this message after rebooting my RPI4.The first thing I did was try to update the RPI using the GUI. I got an error message that unfortunately I don't remember what it said. I didn't think more about that and ran sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade. Everything then seemed ok so I restarted the device but after that I get the error every time I restart the device and can't login. For the sake of it, I have tried to write the wrong password and then I get the message "Incorrect password, please try again." So apparently it knows my password is correct but sends me back to the login screen anyways.

Is there a quick fix for this or am I doomed to reinstall OS? I would like to avoid doing that if possible.
