Troubleshooting • R Pi 4 disconnects after finishing first stream - fix?

I have managed to get the Bluetooth to work on my new R pi 4 as an audio output device, BUT it has a habit of disconnecting after playing the first stream. This happens with VLC media player and with my own programs that send a stream to the "default" output stream. To play the next file I can go to the sound icon and reconnect manually to the BT device and then it will play the next file... I want it to remain active and not disconnect. How do I accomplish that?
