Troubleshooting • Dead Raspberry Pi 4 after long use as media server.

Hi everyone,
Long time Pi user, but only registered on the forum recently.
I have been using a Raspberry Pi 4 for a number of years (4 or 5 I think) as a Logitech Media Server.
The kit consists of:
Raspberry Pi 4 B 2GB
Official 7" Pi touch screen
SmartiPi case
Toshiba Canvio 1TB USB hard drive.
Official 5V Pi 4 power supply

It has run flawlessly for all that time, apart from the very occasional re-boot or power reset, until a week ago.
Suddenly, it went off-line and I tried to re-boot it by unplugging it and re-inserting the power plug. When I looked at the Pi, the green light was on steady, as was the red light. The Pi was dead.
I bought another Pi 4 (4GB) to replace it and when it arrived I installed it in place of the 'defunct' one.
It worked fine ... for less than 24 hours. The following morning, that Pi was toast as well.

I have done some reading around and I tried installing the latest bootloader, followed by a new Buster image for the Pi 4.
I tried this on both Pis. I tried using 16GB and 32GB cards.

I think both are toast as none of the usual remedies work.
However, I am willing to try any other suggestions that people may have.

Thanks in advance,
Alan.
