Curious about this; I just had to fish out the MicroSD card from a Pi3B+ on which I had set
in /boot/firmware/config.txt. It would not boot with these lines - forgot to check what reason (if any) was given in the log. I want to disable bluetooth and wifi but don't want to have to fiddle around with retrieving the card and undoing stuff. Official documentation doesn't even mention these options (why?). What exactly did you do to make it possible to disable wifi & bluetooth?
