run raspberry pi diagnostics to check the sd
The main "high endurance" card I have been using passed, even when I had lots of other stuff running. The results were only something like 1.5x the passing values though. I believe all the others I had lying around failed to pass (I haven't had a need for good ones in a while). I use an SSD with the MKS Pi on the printer, I might try it out.

Just some thoughts.

The Zero2W should fail with the same problem, but earlier because it has half the RAM again, doing the same tests.

Our Pi3s now lock up to with any sort of heavy use.

It sounds like when you suddenly hit the SD card as virtual memory and thrashes and just goes, nope!

You could try an SSD, but for a printer you'll not likely have the desktop anyway.
Just a server/printer driver and webpage access, or just a control desktop screen open.

Try it for what you intend.

Do check that it isn't a voltage drop and it isn't throttling back, read the docs for getting the string to see throttle, under voltage etc.
Ahh, it did seem to freeze when the ram usage was between 450 and 700 in the task manager (well, not when I spammed benchmarks first). I feel a lot better knowing it's likely not bad silicon, just stupid stress testing methodology! Any idea why it was fine if I ran a CPU, GPU, and RAM stress test before opening the browser though?

The voltage drop warning never popped up with the ATX power supply, but did with one of the USB setups.

I did like you recommended and just tried it with the printer. It has gone so much smoother than that MKS PI did so far! It almost makes me wish I had just overpaid during the shortage/scalping a while back instead of getting that thing.

I will report back if I manage to get it to freeze running my printer, hopefully it won't.

Thanks you two!
