Re: Booting a system from USB sometimes breaks bootloader -- In my case USB boot it fixed it.
My pi5 was hung on boot using a fresh boot image card. Would get random green LED flashes then solid red. Tried the bootloader restore from the imager. Now it was stuck on 3 long 1 short green light. Found an unlikely solution from another post. Plugged in an sd card reader into a USB 2 port, and booted from the reader. IT WORKED! Removed the card reader and successfully booted from sd card on the second try.
