The common issue I have read about is interactions with an inserted microSD and the case. I have not has such issues, but I am rather OCD and do tend to read the instructions and ponder prior to doing and thus likely am not representative.
I have not read many stories about breaking off power buttons with any of the more popular Pi 5 cases, so I don't believe it is a widespread issue. That does not address the root cause for your particular issue (manufacturing fault of the Pi and/or case or pebkac) but it does not appear to be a common issue.
